Dear members and friends of the Videonale, dear artists,

the year of  2010 has passed by very quickly and on April 14th 2011 Videonale already opens its thirteenth version of the video festival, established in 1984, in the Kunstmuseum Bonn. The Videonale has broadened its requirements for participating by accepting multiple channel works in this year´s competition. However, the Videonale has not just been true to itself, but further promises the same high quality for the upcoming exhibition in 2011 in the Kunstmuseum Bonn. The selection process this year turned out to be as well a particular challenge, because we got 1760 submissions from 74 countries. For the first time we made use of reelport, an internet platform for film festivals, so artists from all over the world got the chance to participate by uploading their videos online. The one-week jury meeting, featuring Kathrin Becker (Berlin), Georg Elben (Cologne), Charlotte Ginsborg (London), Marc Glöde (Berlin), Tasja Langenbach (Cologne), Dieter Kiessling (Düsseldorf), Karol Piekarski (Kattowitz) and Jun-Jieh Wang (Taipeh), produced the following list of artists (in alphabetical order):

Phuttiphong  Aroonpheng, Shimon Attie, Anna Baumgart, Janet Biggs, Ascan Breuer, Mireia C. Saladrigues, Daya Cahen, Keren Cytter, Shezad Dawood, John Di Stefano, Peter Freund, Christoph Girardet, Nate Harrison, Ronny Heiremans & Katleen Vermeer, Anna Hepp, Ute Hörner & Mathias Antlfinger, Ran Huang, Teresa Hubbard & Alexander Birchler, Jane Jin Kaisen & Guston Sondin-Kung, Adela Jusic, Tessa Knapp, Katarzyna Kozyra, Kaja Leijon, Eric Levine, Chi-Yu Liao, Henrik Lund Jørgensen, Tonje Alice Madsen, Melanie Manchot, Almagul Menlibayeva, Angelica Mesiti, Helena Öhman McCardle, Otolith Group, Nicolas Provost, Anahita Razmi, Johanna Reich, Reynold Reynolds, Gonzalo H. Rodriguez, Casilda Sanchez, Meggie Schneider, Michaela Schweiger, Nurit Sharett, Georg Tiller, Maria Tobola, Adam Vackar, Rachel Perry Welty.

By sharing this pleasant and long expected news we want to welcome the new year and wish you all a good start!

Best regards,

Georg Elben and the Videonale team
